Cousin to Both Father and Son

It’s certainly unusual for a person to be first cousin to a both a father and his son, but it happened to Jerry Lee Lewis. He and “Son” Swaggart were first cousins since Jerry’s father Elmo and Son’s mother Ada were siblings.

Jerry and Son’s son Jimmy Swaggart were also first cousins since their mothers were sisters. All it took was for Son to marry his uncle’s wife’s sister. Of course, Jerry and Jimmy were also first cousins once removed since Jerry and Son were first cousins…they were related two ways.

And as you can see, Mickey Gilley was also a first cousin to Jerry Lee and a first cousin once removed to Jimmy, altho the three of them were considered “cousins” since they were born within a year of each other, and grew up together in the same place.
